Welcome to the Chair of Planetary & Public Health
The Chair of Planetary & Public Health is concerned with the necessary transformation of health systems worldwide in the context of global environmental change. This involves both reducing the negative effects of health systems on the environment and climate (mitigation) and restructuring health systems with the aim of adapting them in preparation for increasingly frequent crises and extreme weather events (adaptation).
The Chair is integrated into the Medical Campus Uper Franconia (MCO) and is a member of the Institute für Medical Management and Health Economics (IMG) and the Cluster of Excellence „Africa Multiple“. The Chair cooperates closely with the German West African Center for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention (G-WAC).
Teaching of the Chair is aimed at students of the M.Sc. Environment, Climate Change and Health (ECCH), the M.Sc. Health Economics and Medical Students studying at the MCO. The chair also supervises final theses of students of these (and other) degree programs as well as medical doctoral theses.
Research of the Chair is application oriented and draws on a large network of international collaborators. Our aim is to contribute to the transformation of healthcare systems worldwide. We work together with relevant players from the healthcare sector in Germany and internationally. In addition to the focus on Planetary Health, there are focus areas of Global Health and Health Systems and Services Research.
