Summer School on Planetary Health 2025

Planetary Health - Literacy, Communication, and Lobbying

22nd - 26th September 2025, Universität Bayreuth

How can the idea of a healthy and sustainable future become reality? What strategies and approaches can help us to shape an environmentally and health-conscious society? How best can we contribute to this positive and futuristic vision?

The Planetary Health Summer School addresses these questions and offers committed students and young scientists the opportunity to take an in-depth look at the interactions between health and ecological sustainability.

The event imparts interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills in order to develop concrete solutions for a sustainable and healthy future. A core component of the Bayreuth Summer School is the development of innovative, transformative projects in which participants work closely with experts to develop practical strategies and design realisable concepts.

Through an interactive and practice-orientated concept, the Summer School sheds light on pressing challenges and possible solutions. It employs innovative teaching methods, including workshops on communication; keynote speeches on climate-sensitive health counselling, co-benefits of healthy and sustainable diets & food systems, planetary health literacy, mindfulness and sustainability, and so much more. Participants will be invited to partake in discussions, group activities, and a regional excursion to a sustainable enterprise which will inspire them to move from knowledge to action.

Experts from various disciplines will design a robust programme that combines theoretical principles with practical applications. This creates a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and joint work on forward-thinking and agile approaches to planetary health.

Students, young scientists and practitioners from the fields of medicine, environmental sciences, public health, social sciences and related disciplines are invited to participate.
